At home we have 2 cats. One of our cats always goes outside whenever he can. He has never used a litter tray and goes out all the time unless it is really heavily raining or if there is snow of any kind. He loves the summer, crawls up in a corner and soaks up the heat. In winter he still goes out. Our other cat however NEVER goes out, she moans at our other cat when he goes out and she waits up for him. It’s like an old fashioned relationship apart from the fact she doesn’t cook his meals. If she did, I would be scared.

Recently I went round to my friend’s house and she had 2 fish. The tank was a reasonable size really and she hadn’t envisaged any problems with the size or environment as she had received good advice from the place where the fish were bought. However only a few days later both the fish had died and this was apparently due to the fact that there wasn’t enough space in the tank for the two of them to survive. They killed each other in the end, I’m not sure how but for future reference it is crucial to check the size of the tank and species of fish to ensure they have a decent living environment.

The other day it was quite clear that our Persian cat needed a trim. So we got out the brush, the scissors and a comb and starting trimming away at the lengthy hairs that our cat has! After giving him flea treatment 2 weeks ago it was still apparent that he was still unhappy with the length of his coat of fur. He got his paw stuck in the fur the other day which was the last straw for him. He needed a trim, so we did it the other night and now he looks much better – but the fur will grow back quickly no doubt.

If you have a cat you will know that they are not as needy as dogs. They don’t require constant attention and in a human sense seem much more “grown up”. My two cats are very different. one still uses a litter tray and doesn’t like going out, the other is always outside, exploring and doing whatever cats do. At the end of the day though they both look forward to being fed and pampered. If there is somewhere warm for them to lie down at night and they get fed regularly this is usually enough to keep your cat happy! Of course the odd cuddle with your cat does no harm and in fact if they are like mine they will love it!

Every now and again it is vital that cats are given treatment for fleas they may have. If you have noticed your cat itching itself with its tongue or almost biting the hair quite a lot then there is a chance they may have fleas. I recently gave my cat the flea treatment and you have to be prepared for them not to trust you for a day or so afterwards. They don’t like being held down while you place the liquid on their back of their necks (the only place they can’t reach to lick it off) so they don’t trust you to stroke them for a while afterwards.
