Dog walkers to face fines if their leads are too long!
June 17th, 2010 by Sally
Dog walkers will face fines of up to £1000 if they walk their pets on leads which are longer than six foot eight inches. It is not uncommon to see dogs on long leads as it gives pets a bit of freedom, without their owners having to worry that they are going to run off.
Wardens are targeting people in areas of Greater Manchester. The measure is being enforced by Tameside Council in Ashtonunder-Lyne and neighbouring towns under a dog control order covering a number of parks and fields. It is thought to be the first area outside of London to be imposing this measure. Pet owners across Tameside have voiced their concerns about the new rules.
